Personal Ledger

Why this project

I wanted a clearer picture of my own spending: what I had spent, what I was planning to spend and what I still owed on a card. I’m developing a personal bookkeeping app to explore those questions and put my interest in careful record keeping into practice.

My approach

I defined what I needed the app to do and used AI assistance to help develop it. Plans should stay separate from actual transactions, and paying off a card should not count as spending again. I want to be able to follow a total back to the entries behind it and understand a balance difference before deciding how to handle it.

How it works

The app works with Korean or English text, manual entries and screenshots or receipt images that I choose to provide. Clear local text can save directly; ambiguous entries and AI interpretations stay outside totals until reviewed and confirmed. It includes monthly summaries, budgets, card-debt tracking, balance comparisons and backup/export tools. It runs locally without bank connections; optional AI interpretation sends selected input to OpenAI.

What I want to learn

I want to get better at turning an everyday problem into clear requirements and checking whether the resulting tool follows them. For me, the accounting connection is in those choices: what counts as spending, what needs review and what evidence helps explain a difference. AI supports the development and optional input interpretation; explicit calculation rules handle the numbers.

Where it stands

Personal Ledger is a working name, and development is ongoing. The September 24, 2026 review records 88 automated tests passed, run by Codex with fictional and isolated data, covering bookkeeping rules, saving and restoring records, and interface logic. Live AI interpretation, receipt-extraction quality and the latest app screens still need verification. Duplicate checks support review, and reconciliation investigation notes currently last only for the session. This remains a local learning project.

Why this project

I created a personal study-planning app to bring assessments, available time and study records into one place. It extends the question behind Personal Ledger: how can clear records help me decide what to do next?

My approach

Plans need to fit around classes, travel and daily routines. The app schedules study within the availability I enter and helps adjust the rest of the day when plans change. Suggested plans stay separate from actual progress: elapsed time does not prove a task is complete, and a missing record means the outcome is unknown.

How it works

A weekly calendar brings together classes, commitments and study blocks. I can record study by course and activity, compare remaining work with available time, and start with a short first step. Grade tracking includes course targets and what-if calculations, keeping hypothetical scores separate from confirmed results.

What I want to learn

I want to practise turning an everyday problem into clear requirements and checking the assumptions behind a recommendation. The accounting connection is in how I handle records: distinguish estimates from actuals, preserve uncertainty and make the basis of a decision visible.

Where it stands

The app is implemented locally and development is ongoing. It runs without external accounts, APIs or Google Calendar integration and supports JSON backup and restore. Its documentation records automated checks; this portfolio review did not independently test its screens or notification delivery. I have not measured an effect on grades or productivity.

Why this project

I wanted one place to connect my accounting studies with the experiences that led me here.

My approach

Built and deployed this website with AI-assisted development tools to share my accounting education, experience and professional development. I continue to maintain its content.

Where it stands

The site is live in four languages, with separate pages for my background, projects and interests. I continue to refine it as my experience grows.
